Scope of the workshop

Global healthcare costs are constantly increasing as a result of increasing healthcare development costs and higher expectations of patients. With this, the efforts are focused on cost-effective biomedical technologies and cutting-edge treatments, with rather minimal intervention than invasive therapies (European Technology Platform, 2020).


Most advanced, cost-effective biomedical solutions are envisioned in scientific areas comprising merged Nanotechnology and Biomedical sciences, particularly, in such nanomedical fields as nano-diagnostics (including in vivo imaging and in vitro diagnostic devices), nano-pharmaceutics, and regenerative medicine.


This joint workshop aims at sharing and dissemination of the current state of the art achievements in the field of Advanced Biomedical Technologies for disease studies and diagnostics, tissue engineering and drug delivery currently performed at iNANO, Aarhus University, Denmark, and the Division of Biomedical Engineering, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST,

Founded in 1991, HKUST is an internationally recognized research university, graded 1st among the Asian 200 top young Universities (2nd in the World’s list) and ranked 1st in the Global EMBA Ranking for 7 times in the past 10 years (Financial Times EMBA Ranking 2007, 2009-2013, 2016) (, with the most strong Science and Engineering departments. Participating in this workshop Division of Biomedical Engineering (BME,, HKUST, headed by Prof. I-Ming Hsing, consists of 27 faculty members from School of Science and Engineering, whose research is focused on innovative and discovery-driven bio/medical engineering research.

The workshop aims at prioritizing biomedical directions for initiating joint long-term and high-impact clinical/biomedical and biotechnological research.
